Managing our Environmental Performance

The way we brew our beer is important to us. Our beers are based on natural ingredients, we use pure water in the brewing process, and we package and distribute our products for the enjoyment of consumers around the world.

Managing and minimizing our environmental impact makes good economic sense and we aim to be as efficient as possible in our use of natural resources. Our continuous improvement approach centers on strict processes like Voyager Plant Optimization (VPO) and sharing and instituting best practices across our brewery network.

Highlights

Highlights in this section of the report include:

• We are reporting data from 124 breweries for 2007, up from 92 in 2006.
• In 2007, we reused or recycled 97.2% of our total waste and byproducts.
• We have reduced the amount of energy required to produce a hectoliter of product by 22.2% 2005.
• Since 2005, we have reduced CO₂ emissions per hectoliter of product by 13.6%.

We are sharing our forward looking targets so that we can continue improving internal performance while increasing external accountability. Our 2010 targets are to:

• Increase our waste and by-product recycling to 98%.
• Cut each of our water use, energy use and CO₂ emissions per hectoliter by a further 10%.
